DoorDash fees for restaurants: what each plan costs

DoorDash takes 15%, 25% or 30% of each delivery order and 6% of pickup. What that comes to on 400 orders a month, and what your guests pay on top.

DoorDash charges restaurants a commission on the subtotal of each Marketplace order: 15% on the Basic plan, 25% on Plus and 30% on Premier for delivery, and 6% for pickup on every plan. There is no monthly fee, and the commission includes card processing. Orders from DoorDash’s own Online Ordering (now Direct Ordering) on your website carry no commission, only card processing of 2.9% or 3.3% plus 30¢. On 400 delivery orders a month at $30, that is $1,800, $3,000 or $3,600.

What does DoorDash charge restaurants per order?

These are the rates on DoorDash’s merchant pricing page on October 15, 2026. Each commission is a percentage of the order subtotal.

Plan Delivery commission Pickup commission Intro rate What the higher rate buys
Basic 15% 6% 0% for the first 7 days Listing to nearby customers
Plus 25% 6% 0% for the first 30 days Wider delivery radius, lower delivery fee for guests, DashPass members
Premier 30% 6% 0% for the first 30 days Widest delivery range, a sponsored listing managed by DoorDash (subject to eligibility), and in your first 6 months on Premier a refund of the month’s commission if you get fewer than 20 orders, with conditions

DoorDash says there is no activation, subscription, software or cancellation fee, and no contract. You can switch plans in the Merchant Portal, and a change takes up to five business days. The extra costs are optional: a DoorDash tablet at $6 a week after the trial (DoorDash’s Learning Center says tablet pricing varies by region), and paid Promotions and Sponsored Listings.

The 6% pickup rate only applies if your DoorDash pickup prices match your in-store prices. DoorDash lets you set different prices for delivery orders, and notes that many restaurants do.

What does that come to in a month?

Say a restaurant gets 400 orders a month through DoorDash at a $30 subtotal, so $12,000 in sales.

How the order comes in Fee per $30 order Monthly fee Total a month
Marketplace delivery, Basic $4.50 $0 $1,800
Marketplace delivery, Plus $7.50 $0 $3,000
Marketplace delivery, Premier $9.00 $0 $3,600
Marketplace pickup, any plan $1.80 $0 $720
DoorDash Direct Ordering, Starter $1.29 (3.3% + 30¢) $0 $516
DoorDash Direct Ordering, Boost $1.17 (2.9% + 30¢) $99 $567
DoorDash Direct Ordering, Pro $1.17 (2.9% + 30¢) $249 $717

We figured every row on the $30 subtotal, before tax and tip. DoorDash’s pages do not say what its Direct Ordering processing is charged on, and the 2.9% and 3.3% rates come from its Learning Center rather than its plans page.

On Plus, the plan DoorDash says most new merchants start with, you keep $22.50 of each $30 delivery order before food and labor. The Marketplace rows include card processing; the Online Direct Ordering rows are card processing only.

The Marketplace delivery commission also covers the Dasher, whom the guest pays for through the delivery fee on Direct Ordering, and it buys guests who found you in the DoorDash app and might not have ordered otherwise. DoorDash makes that case on its own pricing page, and for a restaurant without a delivery driver it is a fair point.

What do guests pay on top?

Guests pay their own fees on Marketplace delivery orders, and those go to DoorDash.

  • A delivery fee, fixed per order, that varies by restaurant. DashPass members pay $0 on eligible orders.
  • A service fee. In California, Chicago, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York City, Puerto Rico and Seattle it is 15% of the subtotal on most orders, and 5% on most eligible orders for DashPass members. Elsewhere in the US, DoorDash began rolling out a service fee that varies with distance and order size in late July 2026, market by market over the following months.
  • Sometimes a small order fee, a long distance fee, a regulatory response fee or a weather impact fee.

On a $30 delivery order in California, the service fee on most orders is $4.50 ($1.50 for DashPass members), before the delivery fee and tip. DoorDash’s help page says pickup orders carry no service fee. On Direct Ordering, guests pay the delivery fee on delivery orders.

Can you avoid the commission?

Yes, for orders that come to you directly. DoorDash’s Online Ordering, now called Direct Ordering and part of its DoorDash Direct platform, puts a commission-free ordering page on your website, Google profile and social accounts, and Dashers can still deliver. It is only open to restaurants with an active DoorDash store, and it comes with every Marketplace plan at no monthly fee. The Boost package ($99 a month) adds a branded website and email marketing, and Pro ($249 a month) adds a branded app and DoorDash’s cross-channel loyalty program.

You still pay the Marketplace commission on orders placed inside the DoorDash app.

Where Expresso fits

Expresso is a direct ordering page for independent restaurants, with no monthly fee and no contract. Guests order pickup, curbside or scheduled orders from your link, or scan a QR code at the table and pay there. Orders ring on a kitchen tablet ($149 once). Card processing is 3.2% + 30¢ on the order total, including tax, tip and the guest fee, and guests pay a 2.5% convenience fee on the food subtotal, shown at checkout. On the same $30 order, before tax and tip, that is $1.28 to you and 75¢ to the guest, or about $514 a month at 400 orders. Payouts go to your bank every week.

Expresso has no delivery drivers and no marketplace, so it brings you no new guests the way the DoorDash app can. It does not need a DoorDash store. If delivery is most of your takeout, DoorDash’s Marketplace or Direct Ordering covers what Expresso does not. If most of your online orders are pickup from regulars, Expresso and DoorDash Direct Ordering cost the restaurant about the same per order, though Expresso guests also pay the 2.5% fee. Our comparison of online ordering systems covers the rest.
